Patna, Sept. 29: The land acquisition process for setting up an Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Kishanganj district of Bihar has been completed.
The state human resource development (HRD) department principal secretary, Anjani Kumar Singh, told reporters today that the state government has acquired 243 acres of land in Kishanganj for setting up the university.
Singh added: “Now that the state government has acquired the land, the process of setting up the university will speed up.”
The 243 acres is divided into two plots having a distance of 500m between the two sets of lands. The state government has also agreed to construct a road connecting the two plots.
When asked if two sets of lands will create problems for proper functioning of the university, Singh said: “Another AMU campus that is coming up at Murshidabad in Bengal is also spread over two plots and a river flows between the plots.”
On the current issue of registration of private elementary schools, the HRD principal secretary said according to Right to Education Act, all schools have to get registered within a deadline but the government will not close down schools.
Singh also spoke about organising Bihar Divas on a large scale. He said there would be painting competition in which noted artists from Bihar, including Subodh Gupta and Sanjay Kumar, will exhibit their paintings and installations.
