Bhagalpur, Dec. 26: Nepal has sought technological assistance from Bihar Agriculture University (BAU), Sabour, to usher in prosperity through improved agriculture technology in the Himalayan country.

A three-member team from the department of agriculture, government of Nepal, yesterday visited BAU and called on vice-chancellor (VC) M.L. Choudhary. The team members also visited various ongoing projects and laboratories and checked equipment used for improvised farming at the university.

The team from Nepal comprised Srinarayan Sharma, the regional director, department of agriculture, Ashok Kumar Murarka and Badri Narayan Choudhary, the president and general secretary respectively of Commercial Agriculture Alliance, a non-profit-making company, to promote agri-culture. The guests visited the campus of the university and was delighted to witness the scientific measures for initiating a revolution in the field of agriculture.

Sharma told reporters that since the climatic conditions were similar in Nepal, a change could be ushered in the field of agriculture by adopting technology from BAU. “A journey to Bhagalpur takes hardly three-four hours by road from Nepal. So it would not be a difficult task for us to visit BAU for our purposes,” he said.

Sharma said the ongoing projects of the varsity could change the fate of farmers in Nepal. “Our farmers, who still follow traditional methods of farming, could change their fate if modern technology is transferred from this varsity. Our country could witness a revolution in the field of agriculture, horticulture and farming-related activities under the able guidance of the university,” he said.

Policymakers in Nepal have decided to seek support from BAU.
