A few students of St Michael's High School, Patna, who have cleared their Class XII examination this year, are upset with the marks they have received in English.

Many have scored high marks in other subjects but have performed very poorly in English.

The students have approached the CBSE on the issue, alleging that only students of St Michael's have been given poor marks in English.

Pratyush Sinha, a student of the school, said: "In mathematics, physics, chemistry and economics my marks are in the range of 90 to 95 but in English, I have got only 73. I was more than satisfied with my English examination and was expecting above 90. I am shocked with the results."

Sinha's overall percentage has come down because of poor marks in English.

Himanshu Bhushan, who has got 76, said: "When I saw the CBSE Class XII results I was shocked. The English marks was too less. I have got 100 in economics, 95 each in physics and chemistry."

The students claimed they are planning to submit a memorandum to the CBSE, challenging the marks they have received.

While the students have planned to approach the school themselves, the St Michael's administration has also approached the CBSE against the discrepancies.

Principal Father Edison Armstrong S.J. said: "We have already approached the CBSE. The students who have received poor marks in English are our best. In the other subjects they have received good grades but in English they have performed poorly. Most of the students have received 70 marks in English."

He added: "These students are those who were planning to pursue higher education in Delhi and other universities, but because of drop in the percentage they will now face difficulty in doing so."

This year, around 320 students from St Michael's High School had appeared for the Class XII examination and the school has approached the CBSE with the plea of 50 students.

The CBSE Class XII results were declared on May 28. This year, the overall pass percentage of the CBSE Patna zone, which comprises Bihar and Jharkhand schools, has been 74.6 per cent.

In science subjects, Keshav Anand from BD Public School has secured the highest in Patna with 96.8 per cent marks. In commerce, DPS Patna student Ayushi Pratap came first in Patna with 95.8 per cent marks. In humanities, Notre Dame Academy Aishani Shrivastava topped in the city with 96 per cent marks.
