Patna, June 19: For 75-year-old Nand Kishore Singh, this Fathers’ Day was bitter, thanks to his son Vivek Kumar. While sons of others brought gifts for their fathers on the third Sunday of June, Vivek brought home trouble.

Singh, a retired history teacher of JP University in Chhapra, today, sought help from police after Suresh Yadav, a moneylender, barged into his residence in the North Patel Nagar area under Patliputra police station to demand Rs 6 lakh that Vivek had allegedly borrowed.

The police said Singh had lodged a complaint against Suresh but they were also investigating if Vivek was involved with the moneylender and trying to make his father cough up the money.

Singh lodged a 20-page FIR against Suresh with Patna superintendent of police (city) Shivdeep Lande today.

He also told the police that his son was in bad company and making life difficult for him.

Vivek, who was earlier a medical representative is unemployed at present.

The police have lodged extortion charges against Suresh. But they are also investigating if Vivek was involved.

“At present, Singh draws a pension of Rs 22,500. He also works as a consultant for a private firm, where he gets a salary of Rs 20,000. Vivek used to work as a medical representative in Madhya Pradesh. When Singh retired in 2005, Vivek also left his job and came to Patna with his family. He is unemployed at present,” Lande said.

A year after Vivek came back, he befriended Suresh.

Sources said the company Vivek kept was not very good. According to the FIR Singh lodged, Vivek is an alcoholic.

In 2006, Suresh came to Singh’s residence accompanied by four other persons. They showed Singh two legal papers according to which, Vivek had borrowed around Rs 9.5 lakh from him.

Suresh threatened to kill Vivek if his money was not returned.

At that time, Singh’s wife was terrified and pleaded to him to give the money to Yadav.

Singh had no choice but to cough up the money his son had borrowed.

On June 7 this year, Suresh turned up at Singh’s house once again with his aides. He showed Singh a legal paper and claimed that Vivek had borrowed Rs 6 lakh from him.

He also threatened to circulate an obscene MMS featuring Vivek if Singh did not cough up the money.

“Suresh also said he had an obscene MMS of Vivek. He threatened to circulate it if he was not paid. Tired of all this, Singh came to the police today to complain against the continuous harassment,” Lande said.

The SP said Suresh had been booked under sections 385, 386, 387, 389, 420, 423, 471 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. All these sections are related to extortion and fraud.

Lande added: “At present, we are looking for Suresh. It seems Suresh and Vivek have planned this together to make Singh cough up money again and again. Vivek will be questioned as well. We will do everything we can to help Singh.”
