Patna: Dharmasheela Devi, 70, mother of senior IPS officer A.K. Ambedkar, suffered severe injuries when two youths riding a motorcycle attempted to snatch her gold chain and she fell on the road in the process on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 5.30am on Bhootnath Road under the jurisdiction of Agamkuan station in Patna. Police said Dharmasheela was attacked when she was going on a morning walk from her SBI Lane house on Bhutnath Road.
The attackers, in the age group of 20 and 25 years, accosted her on the road and tried to snatch her gold chain. She lost control after being pushed by the chain snatchers and got her right hand fractured. She was rushed to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital from where she was later referred to a private nursing home.
A senior police officer said Dharmasheela was operated upon late in the evening. The Agamkuan police have lodged a case against unidentified miscreants in connection with the incident. The incident has sent shockwaves among residents, particularly the morning walkers.
Ambedkar is at present posted as additional director-general-cum-additional civil security commissioner in Patna.
He had earlier served as City SP of Patna and IG of Patna zone. The station house officer of Agamkuan police station Ashok Kumar Pandey said the criminals couldn't snatch the gold chain from the victim.
"We are collecting video clips from the CCTV from the locality to ascertain the identity of the criminals involved in the crime," the SHO said.
