Detailed discussions on proposals submitted by SPUR - a consultant engaged in the support programme for urban reforms - were held during a meeting on Patna's Smart City quest on Friday.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor, finalised the area-based development cost estimate for the Smart City project at Rs 2,331 crore, while investment under the pan-city area was put at Rs 222 crore.

"The proposal has outlined the construction of a commercial complex in and around Patna railway station with mega-parking facilities, hawkers' complex and installation of solar energy panels (green roofs)," said Anand, while stepping out of the meeting.

Anand added that a multi-useful building would also be built at Bankipore bus stand.

Other provisions include developing a green belt along 1.5km on Gandhi Maidan-Digha road along the Ganga, which will have forest areas and health and entertainment amenities. A 20-acre heritage park will come up in Veer Kunwar Singh Park on Hardinge Road, where treasures related to Buddha, Jain, Sufi and Sikh circuits will be displayed.

Anand said under the pan-city development plan, ducts will be laid across 120km together with installation of Wi-Fi spots at 61 locations in the city and 15,000 LEDs.

A SPUR official said: "We have proposed encouraging plying of e-rickshaws and e-buses with provision of making funds available for 200 e-rickshaws. Again, Beer Chand Patel Marg will be developed as a model path."

Commissioner Anand said 1.77 crore online votes had been cast in favour of the Patna smart city project.
