Patna, Oct. 16: Police have identified the youths who allegedly molested a college student and assaulted her father at Income Tax roundabout on October 13.
The cops claimed one of the youths is the son of an assistant sub-inspector posted with the 16th battalion of Bihar Military Police. His companion is the owner of a liquor shop in the Digha area.
Their sketches were released yesterday, though the cops had identified the duo on Friday. A police- man claimed that after the publication of their sketches, the cops had started to get calls about the whereabouts of the duo.
City central superintendent of police (SP) Shivdeep Lande told The Telegraph: “We got a call on Friday evening. The caller identified the duo. One of them is Ravi Prakash, son of Bigunath Singh, an assistant sub-inspector with the BMP battalion 16 in Phulwarisharif.
“His elder brother, Rakesh, had come to the Kotwali police station the same day to claim the bike, which the duo had left behind when they escaped. When he was questioned, Rakesh said Ravi was in Delhi. When Rakesh was asked how his bike reached the spot of the incident, he replied that he had lent it to a friend. Rakesh claimed that when the friend saw the commotion, he ran away without taking the bike.”
The registration number of the bike — BR21(C) 0641 — was painted in red and blue, the colours usually reserved for police vehicles.
The SP said: “We have found out that one of the youths involved in the incident was Ravi. He is around 20 years old.”
Lande also said: “We have also received calls identifying Ravi as a waiter who works at a liquor shop near Income Tax roundabout, where the incident occurred. We, however, doubt that Ravi, the waiter, is the same person as Ravi Prakash. For, the son of a policeman is unlikely to be a waiter of a liquor shop.”
The other person has been identified as 25-year-old Pintu Singh, son of Digha resident Shiv Pujan Singh.
“Pintu owns a liquor shop in the Digha area. Last night we raided his house. He is absconding at present,” said Lande.
Senior superintendent of police Alok Kumar said the duo would be arrested soon.
“We are very serious about the case. Our teams are raiding the suspected hideouts. The youths accused of eve-teasing will be nabbed soon,” said Kumar.
The district administration has also suspended the licence of the on liquor shop where the duo gulped liquor before teasing the college student. Police stations have been asked to keep a tab on liquor shops under their jurisdiction.
Station house officers have been directed to stay on high alert and patrol their areas till 11pm.
