Patna, July 13: A common man, who has received a life threat, has been knocking the doors of the administration for protection for the past few days, but his pleas have been falling on deaf ears.

An anonymous call has shaken the family of a Danapur-based businessman, Rakesh Jaiswal. Criminals had gunned down Rakesh’s elder brother, Randhir Jaiswal (39), on March 17 last year in his electronic goods shop near Bigiganj Mor under Danapur police station.

On July 3, Rakesh received an anonymous call on his cellphone while he was in his shop around 11.30am. The caller reportedly told Rakesh: “Agar marna nahi chahte ho to paisa pahucha dena (If you don’t want to be killed, then pay money).” The threat call has caused the entire Jaiswal family to spend sleepless nights.

“Though I immediately reported the matter to Danapur police, nothing has been done in this regard so far. The fact that I lost my brother in a similar incident does not seem to bother the police. They are taking it easy,” Rakesh told The Telegraph on Thursday.

Rakesh has been running from pillar to post to seek police protection for his family members and himself. “I could not meet the senior superintendent of police (SSP) and the city superintendent of police (SP) though I visited their offices twice. I have also been trying to meet the director-general of police (DGP) also but in vain,” he said.

Rakesh visited the state police headquarters even last week. “But the officer was busy in a meeting. I was suggested by a police officer to meet the City SP and the SSP first before going to the DGP’s office,” Rakesh said, adding that he had submitted a petition to the chief minister’s secretariat.

He even tried to seek the intervention of deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, but in vain. “I appeared at Modiji’s janata darbar recently and submitted a petition seeking his intervention in the case. But it failed to make any impact on the police,” he added.

Rakesh’s main cause of worry is the release of some criminals, who were involved his brother’s murder. “I have come to know that two or three persons accused in my brother’s murder have been released from jail and the others have applied for the same in Patna High Court,” he said.

Three accused — Bulla Yadav, Toofani and Chandan Dome — were let-off from the jail on bail about two months ago. The kingpin of the gang, Gabbar, is still in Beur Central Jail. He had reportedly demanded a huge extortion amount from Randhir.

Rakesh recalled how two youngsters had handed over a handwritten letter to his elder brother a week before the last year’s incident. “My brother immediately informed the Danapur police and lodged a complaint. A petition was also submitted to the chief minister’s secretariat on March 10 last year but no avail,” he said.

On Marcy 17 last year, some gun-toting men visited the Jaiswals’ shop and shot Randhir from point-blank range. “While the body was lying in the shop, some policemen led by then station house officer Dilip Kumar rushed to the spot and washed the bloodstains,” Rakesh said.
