A spell of shower on Monday morning gave residents respite from draining sultry weather, enticing a few to get wet.

A couple deliberately got drenched during their morning stroll. Some girls hit the streets on scooters to enjoy the refreshing breeze. Few guys went out on bikes to feel the balmy morning weather.

Dense clouds enveloped the city’s skies little after the dawn. The rain started around 6.30am and lasted almost an hour. Winds blowing at a speed of 30km per hour accompanied the downpour.

The 16mm rainfall cooled down the atmosphere considerably. The minimum temperature dipped four degrees below the normal and stood at 22.1°C — simply fantastic to step out of home.

Amit Kumar, a resident of the Boring Road area, said: “We were delighted to see the overcast skies and the high speed wind in the morning. We normally avoid the morning stroll if the weather is cloudy. But today (Monday) we decided to go out for the walk. On our way back home from the nearby park, my wife and I got drenched.”

Shweta Singh, a college student who lives at Kadamkuan, called up one of her friends around 7 in the morning and asked her to get ready for a rain ride. Soon they were on the streets, enjoying the shower.

The clouds dispersed in the afternoon but the weather was pleasant throughout the day.

Weathermen attributed the rain to the static trough line over Bihar for over a fortnight and a cyclonic circulation that developed on the border of Bihar and Jharkhand on Sunday.

“The rain was the impact of the cyclonic circulation over Bihar-Jharkhand and the low pressure trough stretching between eastern Uttar Pradesh and coastal Andhra Pradesh across Chhattisgarh and Odisha,” said Ashish Kumar Sen, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), Patna.

The trough line is the outcome of the cyclonic storm, Mahasen. Sen claimed that its static position over the past fortnight prompted several cyclonic circulations in the region similar to the one that caused the rainfall on Monday.

The city residents would be able to enjoy the pleasant weather condition for the next few days. “The troposphere is still filled with moist easterly winds, restricting the surge in the mercury column. Based on the prevailing conditions, we expect the maximum temperature would remain two to three degrees below normal in the next three to four days,” said Sen.

The Met office has also issued a thunder squall alert in the state. “Winds blowing at a speed of 40km per hour are expected to lash isolated pockets. Several high intensity thunder squalls and heavy rain are expected in the north-eastern districts on May 30 and 31. Thunder squalls of moderate intensity and light to medium rainfall are expected in the central parts of the state, including Patna, in the same period,” said Sen.
