More than 300 Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinees staged a protest at the exam centre here on Sunday demanding cancellation of the test because of poor Internet connection.
The online exam for positions at the Central Police Organisation took place at The System Care, Raj InfoTech, on SP Verma Road.
The protesting students claimed that many students faced problems as the system was taking extra time to save correct answers because of poor connectivity.
"Generally, it takes about three to four seconds to save an answer, but we had to wait for more than 30 to 40 seconds for the same," said Gaurav Kumar, a candidate who took the test. "The server speed was extremely slow."
The students also complained about the outdated computer terminals that they were provided with to write the online test .
" The terminal kept developing snags," said Dipak Kumar, another candidate. "Questions were not being displayed properly. For example, when we were answering question number three and wanted to proceed to the next question, we were automatically directed to question number 10 or 12 instead of question number four. This confused most examinees."
The students complained to the centre superintendent about their problems. Many candidates' seating arrangement was changed but it was not sufficient in solving the problem . The students also complained about the infrastructure. They said the centre had given them desks that were too small.
When the students went to complain to the centre superintendent, B. Prasad, about the poor connectivity, he told them that the centre had no role to play in the connectivity.
"It is not my job to look after the Internet connection," he said. " The students can approach the SSC office in Allahabad if they have problems."
Few candidates called the SSC office helpline informing the officials about the problem . "The SSC office told us that they will look into the matter," said Gaurav.
The protesting students registered a complaint with the Gandhi Maidan police station.
Sources said students had faced similar problems on Saturday during the test and had protested.
The SSC conducts exams to recruit sub-inspectors for the Central Police Organisation.
