Patna: Security has been beefed up at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after the alleged molestation of a final year MBBS student on the campus by a Patna University student.
According to PMCH medicos, the incident occurred near the canteen on Monday morning. The MBBS girl student is in her final year while her alleged tormentor is a boarder of one of the Patna College hostels.
"The medico raised an alarm when the incident occurred. Other medical students came to her rescue and they beat up the molester. The medicos then learnt that the PU student went back to his hostel to bring his gang to take revenge. We informed the college administration of this and extra security cover was sought. The administration took help of police to beef up security," said president of the junior doctors' association of PMCH, Vinay Kumar.
He added that the extra security cover continued to remain on campus.
But PMC principal Vijay Kumar Gupta denied the medicos' claim that the incident happened on campus. "The incident occurred outside the campus. So I can't give you any details. The students asked us to beef up security apprehending attack by PU students after the molestation, which actually happened outside the campus. We sought police help after getting requests from students," he said.
According to PMCH students, this is not the first time that a PU student has been found to be involved in a case of molestation on their campus. "Earlier also such incidents have happened. The college administration should increase the number of CCTVs on the campus so that culprits could be identified," said Vinay.
