Muzaffarpur, April 20: The district administration will strengthen security arrangements at the local court after an undertrial was shot dead on its premises on April 11.

More than a hundred prisoners are brought to the court every day. Jail sources said around 36 undertrials have allegedly received life threats.

The administration is planning to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras on the court premises.

Sharing details on Wednesday, Muzaffarpur district magistrate (DM) Dharmendra Kumar said at least six strategic points have been identified on the court premises where the cameras would be installed. "We will complete installation work within two days," he said.

The DM held a meeting with Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police Vivek Kumar to discuss the security arrangements in detail.

A field inspection had revealed that the boundary wall of the court premises was damaged at several points and people use them to enter the court illegally. The DM said all such lanes and bylanes would be closed down and the boundary wall would be reconstructed.

Jail superintendent Jitendra Kumar has urged the police and the district administration to provide additional forces to guard prisoners when they are taken to court or are kept in the court lock-up for being produced in the court.

The district administration has decided to provide more security personnel for the undertrials with Special Task Force personnel escorting them when they are ferried from jail to court.
