Schools battle for chemistry honours

Patna, May 6: Delhi Public School and RPS Residential Public School were declared joint winners in the Central-level Acharya P.C. Ray Chemistry quiz contest organised by National Council of Science Museum at the Sri Krishna Science Centre today.

The winners will now participate in a zonal-level competition on July 15 at Birla Industrial and Technological Museum in Calcutta.

As many as 24 teams from as many schools, including Delhi Public School, May Flower School, RPS Residential School, International School and Gyan Niketan, participated in the two-day long competition where the participants had to go through the oral round in the semi-final and final, following the written test in preliminary rounds.

“Of the 24 teams, eight got selected for the semi-final round, where the judging was based on written test comprising 25 sets of objective question and students were given 45 minutes to finish their paper. In the final, four teams were selected,” said Anurag Kumar, project co-ordinator, Sri Krishna Science Centre. Kumar said the national-level contest is an initiative of National Council of Science Museums to observe International Year of Chemistry along with the 150th birth anniversary of scientist P.C. Ray.

Ramkrishna, a participant, said: “It’s an opportunity to make our school proud. We would leave no stone unturned to be champions in the later phase of the competition.”

Anurag said the finals would take place in Science City in Calcutta in August.
