Determination and dedication are the buzzwords for Seven Summits Women Team, who scaled Mt Everest in Asia, Mt Kosciuszko in Australia, Mt Elbrus in Europe, Mt Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mt Aconcagua in South America, Mt Denali in North America and Mt Vinson Massif in Antarctica.
Lions Club International organised an event to felicitate the brave women at AN Sinha Institute of Social Studies on Sunday.
Five among the seven present at the event were Shailee Basnet, Asha Kumari Singh, Pema Diki Sherpa, Nimdoma Sherpa and Maya Gurung. "Together we reach higher" was the key message of the women team and spread the value of education, empowerment and to save the nature.
Raman Kumar, district governor, Lions Club International, felicitated the team by offering them mementos. Raman said: "It is privileged for the club and the state to welcome the women and they are role models for every girl and woman. They are from ordinary family but have done extraordinary things by demonstrating that everyone has the capacity to do something beyond expectations."
Team coordinator Shailee Basnet said: "We started the journey in 2007 and ended in first week of January 2015. We scaled the peak in Antarctica by struggling in the temperature of minus 30 degrees Celsius."
