Patna: Patna mayor Sita Sahu, who claimed to have received death threats recently, on Monday sought security from Patna police.

Sahu met senior superintendent of police Manu Maharaaj and informed him about Friday night's incident in which three people created ruckus outside her residence in Patna City and also fired a round and threatened her and her family members.

Sahu lodged an FIR against three people at Alamganj police station the next day of the incident (Saturday) in which she named three persons - Divya Sundaram (a resident of Malya Mahadev Mandir Road), Arun Kumar (a resident of Meena Bazar Lane) and Chhotan Gop (a resident of Bari Patandevi Road).

Sources said one person on Monday surrendered in the Patna City Civil court in connection with the firing outside the house of Sahu. The court granted him bail.

Sahu said on Tuesday she will meet director-general of police K.S. Dwivedi and would ask for providing homeguards for her residence.

"What is surprising is that not even a single official of the district administration came to meet after this incident. My security should have been strengthened by the administration on its own after knowing about the incident but it didn't happen. A mayor is the first citizen of the city but I have to knock doors of the authorities concerned for my own security," said an angry Sahu.

Sahu said Maharaaj had assured her of conducting night patrols outside her residence. "I went to meet the DGP today itself but he was not in office. Tomorrow I would meet him and ask for providing homeguards," said Sahu.

The FIR states Arun and Chhotan were using slangs against Sahu and her son Shishir Kumar outside her house on Friday night and that Arun whipped out a pistol and fired a round.

The FIR mentions that both the accused were claiming that the mayor had got the encroachment removed near Shaym Benson situated at Pahari four-lane and they also threatened that if Sreechand Banquet Hall (which belongs to Divya Sundaram) at Jalla Road and a house situated alongside it (which belongs to Arun Kumar) are demolished, the mayor should be ready to face consequences.

According to the FIR, Divya Sundaram is the mastermind of the incident.

Sahu asked urban development minister Suresh Kumar Sharma for releasing funds to the municipal corporation.

Sahu pressed for releasing funds to the corporation for various schemes in the urban housing and development department's meeting that was chaired by urban development and housing minister Suresh Kumar Sharma. Sahu said the department was not approving the detailed project reports of the various programmes due to which the programmes had got stuck in limbo.
