Patna, Jan. 28: The Bihar Chapter of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) organised a meet on industrial safety in the state capital today.

Speaking on the occasion, experts from the industry and senior fire officials of the state government stressed on the need of creating more safety awareness among industries.

“In the man-machine environment, there are high risks of injury or fatality due to lack of safety awareness at different levels. With the pressure of increased production and expansion of industrial capacity, the number of fatalities is going up every year. Today, safety is just not a concept or practice it is also recognition of dignity of work. An accident prevented is a benefit and an accident compensated is an apology. To work towards the objective of achieving zero accident serious introspection and analysis is needed for making an impact,” said Manaranjan Prasad, head, work place safety, Tata Steel Ltd.

He also stressed on the need of resources for research, subsequent development of new processes, equipment and work method and above all for training and establishment of suitable reward system.

CII eastern region authorities said a guidebook on principles of industrial safety for the benefit of member industries was also released.

“We have a dedicated task force with a focused objective of sensitising industry on safety to enable them to achieve the goal of an injury and illness-free workplace. The task force strongly believes that the set of clearly defined principles will result in improved safety performance as well as better business results across the country,”said a senior CII official.

He added: “Safety of people working in the industry is of paramount importance. The principles are designed to guide members of CII eastern region in achieving the goal of an injury and illness-free workplace.”
