Patna, June 22: It was the last day, last show and last ditch effort of school passouts for a remarkable first day on the college campus. A huge turnout of students marked the last day of sale and submission of applications for all the colleges under Patna University, except Patna Women’s College and Patna College.
A decreased number of seats did not deter the students to turn out in large numbers to apply for the course of their choice.
Patna Science College is the top destination for science students, while humanities students made a beeline for Patna College. Vanijya Vidhyalaya is the most preferred destination for commerce students.
Apart from these, BN College is popular for various vocational courses apart from traditional and regular courses. Patna Women’s College and Magadh Mahila College are popular among girls.
Dolly Sinha, the principal of Magadh Mahila College, told The Telegraph: “This year, the admission in colleges will be a bit tough as compared to previous years in both traditional and vocational courses. In traditional courses, including BA, BSc and BCom, the college will issue the cut-off list within a week. The written test for many vocational courses has been completed and the list will be published soon.”
Sinha pointed out that there is a rush for vocational courses as these are job oriented and students graduating in these are placed in top companies.
The administrations of various colleges were elated over the number of forms sold. At some colleges the sale of forms almost doubled today.
M.M. Sinha, the admission in-charge of BN College, said today being the last day for the sale and submission of forms, there was a long queue of students.
The form fill-up process over, the countdown for admission lists has started.
According to the notification issued by the Patna University, the last date for the publication of the list of selected candidates for admission is June 29, while the admission in all the courses has to be completed by July 15. The university has also directed the colleges to commence their classes by July 18.
Patna Women’s College declared its cut-off list a week ago. The last date for submitting the forms in Patna College is June 25.
More seat demand
The university administration has sent a letter to the state human resource development (HRD) department for increasing the number of seats at various colleges under its wings. On Tuesday evening, the university vice-chancellor and the principals of various colleges took part in a meeting. Keeping in mind the huge number of applications, they were in favour of increasing the number of seats in the colleges.
The HRD department had earlier asked Patna University to decrease the number of seats in its constituent colleges as compared to last year.
