A middle-aged man was killed and a minor girl suffered injuries in an indiscriminate firing by a group of criminals, who escaped with cash and valuables worth Rs 30 lakh in Nalanda on Monday night.

The incident occurred at Goraur village when criminals barged into the house of one Sanjay Kumar around midnight to rob. They opened fire when the family members reportedly resisted the robbery.

The police said Sanjay's six-year-old daughter Pinki Kumari received bullet injuries. His neighbour, identified as Mohi Yadav, was killed when he rushed to the spot after hearing the firing.

The dacoits, who were 15 to 20 in number, escaped with the cash and jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh. The valuables were kept in the house for the wedding of Sanjay's niece next month. The injured girl has been admitted to a Biharsharif hospital. Nalanda deputy superintendent of police N.R. Rajak said a case has been lodged with Chhabilapur police station.
