Patna, Nov. 26: The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) today dismissed the annual report card of the NDA-II as misleading and marked chief minister Nitish Kumar in the negative for “rise in corruption and non-implementation of government schemes”.
Presenting the party’s counter report on the present state of affairs in Bihar, RJD state president Ram Chandra Purbey said the Nitish government’s biggest achievement lies in the fact that now “corruption had become affiliated to the government”.
Yesterday, the Opposition parties, including the RJD, had criticised the annual report of the state government saying it was a bundle of statistical jugglery.
“Corruption is at its peak now and bribery is prevalent from the top to the bottom. One can easily say that corruption has become legally affiliated to the state,” Purbey said.
He added the present government has set a record when it comes to scams in the state.
“The BIADA land scam, the AC-DC bill scam, the mid-day meal scam are few to name. One can also add the transport scam, the medicine scam, the flood relief scams and others. It can be said to be a record. If things don’t get into order, the party (RJD) will adopt a policy of expose, oppose and depose,” Purbey pointed out. The cover page of the RJD report carried the photographs of Forbesganj firing incident. Purbey claimed that the condition of the minority community was pitiable in the state.
“The Forbesganj police firing of June 3 proved the insensitive attitude of the state government. The state government showed its true colours when Nitish himself flagged off the rath yatra of Lal Krishna Advani, the man responsible for the Babri Masjid demolition. In addition to this, the promise to construct boundary walls around burial places of Muslims remains unfulfilled,” Purbey said.
“People are not safe in Patna and the number of criminal incidents like murder, rape, kidnapping etc has gone up. Backward caste women are being targeted and raped and the government is silent over the whole issue,” Purbey said.
The RJD said the recent Seva Yatra undertaken by Nitish in two districts exposed his “poor governance”.
“He had to face opposition in the form of protests in most of the places. Embezzlement and looting in schemes like MNREGA is rampant. There is no quality education in Bihar and students are still going to places like Delhi for higher studies. The same can be said about condition of health services in the state,” Purve said. He added that till now, no companies and organisations had come to the state with any solid investment plan.
“Where is the investment? The power situation is bad and in villages, people have to pay a bribe of Rs 10,000 to 15,000 for installation of a transformer. The condition of farmers is pitiable with seeds and fertilizers being smuggled out of the state. Khet sookha, kisan bhookha (fields are dry and farmers are hungry),” Purbey said.
The RJD also alleged that Nitish always rushed to the Centre demanding special status for the state whenever he faced criticism.
“The RJD will start statewide protests if the sitiation does not improve,” Purbey said.
