Intermediate students who applied for scrutiny (re-totalling) of their marks have to wait longer as the intermediate council is yet to check over two lakh copies.

The future of a large number of students is in dark because of slow scrutiny.

Admissions into undergraduate courses at many colleges of Patna University and Magadh University are over, but results of around 1 lakh students are still pending.

ISc and ICom results were declared on May 27. While 66.01% of students cleared ISc, 82.64% cleared ICom.

Those who secured marks much below their expectations staged a protest in front of the intermediate council building and Bihar School Examination Board office in May. Later, the intermediate council asked students to apply for scrutiny.

But after almost two months, the council is yet to check over 2.5 lakh copies of the around 1 lakh students who feel they have secured marks much lower than their expectations.

Bihar School Examination Board chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said: “As copies of more than one lakh students have to be scrutinised, it will take at least two more months.”

The examination board chairman said scrutiny of those candidates who had cleared competitive examinations such as engineering or medical was carried out on priority basis, so that they do not face difficulties in taking admission into professional colleges.

Engineering aspirants whose results were pending were asked to apply as a special category. Now that scrutiny of their papers is over, that of students who applied under general category will take place.

As scrutiny of results of a large number of students is still pending, students can be seen loitering in the intermediate council building.

Kamlesh Kumar, a student of LS College in Muzaffarpur, said: “I had applied for scrutiny of my paper on June 5, but even after over a month and a half the process is yet to be completed.” Kamlesh secured 255 marks in science and has applied for retotalling as he claims he was expecting 350 out of 500 marks.

Kamlesh’s is not an isolated case. Sulekha Kumari, a student of Ram Lakhan Singh Yadav College, Biharsarif, said: “I too have applied for scrutiny of my results in intermediate Arts. I have scored zero marks in Hindi and Philosophy papers whereas in the other three subjects, I have scored more than 60 per cent marks.

Sulekha further said it was a clear case of negligence on the part of intermediate council, as no student can secure zero marks in subjective papers such as Hindi and Philosophy.

The slow scrutiny process has now taken a political colour with senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, too, attacking the intermediate council and the state government.

Modi had attacked the state government claiming that at the rate at which scrutiny is going on it is almost clear students would lose a year.

Modi had also demanded for increase in the number of scrutiny centres, as scrutiny is now going on at just one centre, Miller School.
