Patna, Sept. 25: The season of festivities calls for a shopping spree, and living up to it are the residents of the state capital. They are not just buying new clothes but also home appliances, home décor to deck up their houses and snacks to satiate their taste buds.

Facilitating easy shopping for residents is the 10-day-long Life and Style Consumer Trade Fair on the grounds of Sinha Library in the state capital. Inaugurated on September 23, the trade fair has been attracting customers in hordes. Jointly organised by Mercury Link, an Allahabad-based event management company, and Woodland Handicrafts, a furniture company, the fair is hosting around 95 stalls by entrepreneurs from across the country.

Up for grabs are home and kitchen appliances, furniture, home décor items, kurtis, saris, herbal cosmetics and trendy footwear. Handbags, belts, wallets, hosiery items, homemade snacks from Gujarat and automobiles are also up for sale. And, if you are feeling adventurous, you can head out to the tattoo stall at the fair. The tattoos you will get at this stall are temporary though.

Director of Mercury Link Arif Khan said: “We have organised trade fairs across India but this is our first time in Patna. This is a good platform to offer customers quality shopping options in the festive season.”

Enthusiastic visitors to the fair admired exquisite wooden furniture from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, on sale at the stall of Woodland Handicrafts.

While sofa sets are priced between Rs 25,000 and Rs 1.25 lakh, intricately designed double beds of sheesham and teak are commanding prices of Rs 35,000 and Rs 1.5 lakh. If you are in a mood to overhaul your décor this season, you can also avail of the company’s special exchange offer of up to 30 per cent.

“We have been participating in such trade fairs in Patna for the past 15 years. Each time, the response has been great. The people of Patna have a good taste for traditional craftsmanship when it comes to wooden furniture,” said Ali Haider, sales manager, Woodland Handicrafts.

Women were mostly seen crowding imitation jewellery stalls. The earrings, pendant sets and bangles on display are priced between an affordable Rs 60 and Rs 300. The stall of Mumbai Bag was a similar sight with women waiting to get that stylish handbag, glares and watches to complement their puja wear.

“Going out to shop for accessories before festivals is a must-do for me. I am simply fascinated with the trendy footwear and handbags on sale,” said an ecstatic Niharika, a young visitor to the fair.

Although consumer durables occupied most of the fair, stalls like Salim Bhai Namkeen from Gujarat left residents wanting for more. Offering cheese balls, chips and other tasty treats at Rs 200 a kg, the stall is a big hit.

Another hit is the temporary tattoo stall — Gizmo Tattoo — from Delhi.
