Patna, June 20: Summer vacation has come to an end and most students of city-based schools are only too eager to return to their educational institutions.
While most of them were keen to enjoy the fun they usually have with their friends at school, others were less eager to resume classes. They were still in a holiday mood, and wanted to savour the rainy weather at home.
Those who went to school, however, found the first day after vacation exciting. After all, it was a reunion of sorts for them.
Many schools recorded low attendance today, thanks to the inclement weather. In most schools, the attendance was around 50 per cent. Many students, who stay in hostels, have also not returned, said a source.
A number of schools in the city such as St Michael’s High School, DAV schools, Patna Central School and Krishna Niketan reopened today.
Ritwik, a Class VIII student of DAV, BSEB, was not too eager to go to school in the morning. However, on his way back from school, he had a smile on his face.
“It was a fun-filled day, as I met many friends. My teachers were also impressed with me as I could answer all the questions they asked,” he said.
Uday Kant, another Class VIII student of the same school, said: “No one likes to go to school after a long vacation. It is always better to meet friends at home as you can have more fun.
“But it was enjoyable to study together in class.”
Another student of the same school, Himanshu, said: “After a long summer vacation, it was great to meet my friends.”
Amit, a student of Patna Central School, said: “It was a wonderful experience to be back in school. As it was the first day, we were not taught too much. We also enjoyed playing in the rain with our friends.”
Students of other schools enjoyed the rain at home, as some educational institutions extended the holidays.
While Notre Dame Academy and Loyola High School will reopen on June 22, students of Gyan Niketan will return to school on June 24.
St Joseph’s Convent High School, Don Bosco Academy, Delhi Public School, St Dominic Savio’s High School, Baldwin Academy, Isomer —The Play School and Tender Hearts International will be reopen on June 27.
Radiant International School was supposed to reopen today but the summer vacation was extended by two days because of the inclement weather. Students were informed about the extension by text messages sent out last night.
The director of the school, C.B. Singh, said: “Because of the bad weather condition, we sent text messages to the children’s parents last night. They were informed that if the weather permits, the school would reopen on June 22.”
