Patna, Sept. 30: The month-long dharna by architecture department students of National Institute of Technology (NIT) ended today after the administration assured them that the team from Council of Architecture (COA) would visit the campus soon for re-registration.
Manoj Kumar, the head of department, architecture, told The Telegraph: “The COA team would visit the campus on October 7 and 8. Based on the report submitted by the team, a final decision regarding re-registration would be taken.” The report will be submitted within a month.
In 2005, the COA had withheld the registration of the architecture branch, as it had failed to meet requirements. Kumar said: “This time, we are prepared as we have improved the infrastructure by upgrading classrooms, studio, labs and the syllabus.”
The visiting team would also seek the opinion of students.
The COA, in its report on the inspection carried out at NIT, Patna in 2005 gave instruction not to conduct the bachelor of architecture degree course for 2005-2006.
However, the NIT administration carried out the admission process. The architecture course, which was registered since 1979, was declared unregistered in 2005.
If the NIT’s architecture branch is successful in getting re-registration, around 350 students of the department would be benefited for they would be eligible to apply for jobs in the government sector.
A student, on the condition of anonymity, said: “We hope to get the registration this time.”
