Patna, Sept. 18: Roshan Ray, an artist from Bhojpur, is in the state capital with his geometrical paintings to attend the 10-day-long Shatabdi Varsh Craft Bazaar, 2011.
Organised by Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan, a wing of the state industries department, the fair is hosting artists and entrepreneurs from across the state on the grounds of Bihar Veterinary College.
Of the 110 stalls at the fair, 60 are devoted to handicraft, 40 to handloom and the remaining 10 to food. Ray, who has come with folk art from Bhojpur, said: “One of my paintings has geometrical forms, showing a sister’s love for her brother.”
Patna-based artist Jitendra Mohan’s stall also caught the attention of visitors. The stall displayed umbrellas worth Rs 1,500. If you wonder the reason behind the “overpriced” monsoon companions, look closer and you would find paintings on the umbrellas.
Mohan said: “The paintings depict daily life of different people like potters and homemakers.” Mohammad Aabid Raza from Banka spins silk into fabric and crafts it into saris and dupattas. Silk dupattas are priced between Rs 100 and Rs 1,000 while saris cost Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 at the stall.
The fair in-charge, Ashok Kumar Sinha, also the deputy director, department of industries, said: “The state government aims to promote art from across the state. There are 110 stalls and artists have come with wonderful products.”
