Most of the city schools would remain closed this Wednesday, sparing students the grind of remaining stranded on choked streets because of the RJD’s Parivartan Rally. Pupils of the rest and their parents are praying for the same.
Some institutions have decided to start their summer vacation in advance virtually to skirt the hassle of the rally day but the authorities of not many were keen to come on the record.
Avinash Dubey, the co-ordinator of Christ Church Diocesan School, said: “The formative assessments slated for May 15 would be conducted a day in advance because the summer vacation would now start on that day instead of May 16.”
Don Bosco Academy has brought forward the summer vacation by three days from May 18 to May 15. But a school official said the RJD rally had not prompted the step.
The last working day before the summer vacation at Notre Dame Academy would be May 14.
Unlike others, DAV, BSEB, principal Ramanuj Prasad curtly said his school would remain closed on May 15 because of the congregation.
Another principal on the condition of anonymity said it was near impossible to keep the school open that day. “No one knows what would be the situation like that day. Therefore, no risk should be taken when it comes to children and buses,” he added.
M. Rizvi, the principal of Rose Bud School, said: “We are planning to close the school on May 15.” The authorities of Gyan Niketan have not yet taken any decision.
Patna Central School and Krishna Niketan, however, would remain open on the rally day. Students of these schools and their parents are suffering from an uncanny fear.
Minu Singh, whose son is in Class VI, said: “I have two children. One is in Christ Church Diocesan School, which would remain closed on the rally day. I do not know how my other child would reach the school and come back home on May 15.”
The Exhibition Road resident asserted that all schools should be closed that day. She expects the institution to circulate a holiday notice on Tuesday.
Gyanendra Kumar of Kadamuan echoed Minu. He said: “I do not think vehicles would be allowed to move that day. In such a situation, I do not know how my child would manage. I am just hoping that the school would announce holiday tomorrow (Tuesday).”
Train diversions
The East Central Railway has decided to divert some trains away from Patna Junction on May 15 to manage the rush after the arrival of the 16 rally special trains of the RJD.
All Mail and express trains arriving from Delhi between 2pm and midnight would halt at Danapur. Trains from Howrah would be diverted to Rajendra Nagar Terminus.
The main entrance of Patna Junction at the Mahavir Mandir side would be closed for vehicles from 10am to midnight. Passengers would have to use the Karbigahiya-end.
All Delhi-bound trains would depart from platform number 4 and 5 of Patna Junction. Rajdhani Express, Magadh Express and Shramjeevi Express would start from platform number 6 and 7.
