Rain and ice at the same party is what youngsters got on Friday, thanks to Kilkari.

Hundreds aged between 10 and 18 turned up at Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan for the inaugural day of its annual summer camp. In store for them were a rain dance, gola (ice candy) party and a game of antakshari.

“We organise this rain dance party in every summer camp. This time, we thought of organising it on the inaugural day. Children and youths had a blast. Their smiles say it all,” said Anita Thakur, the programme officer of Kilkari Bihar Bal Bhavan, an unit of the education department.

Students from different schools and colleges had a whale of a time, thanks to the artificial rain and fun games. Popular Bollywood songs, including Tune Maari Entriyaan from Gunday, Barso re megha from Guru and Baby doll from Ragini MMS 2, played on during the rain dance.

Kadambini Barnwal, a 16-year-old Intermediate student at College of Commerce, said she was extremely excited to be a part of the summer camp.

“I have been coming to Kilkari’s summer camp for the past three years but this one was the best. I enjoyed a lot. The rain dance was awesome. The best thing about it was the huge participation of children and youths. Around 800 children and youths took part in the rain dance,” she said.

The summer camp will end on June 21. Programme officer Thakur said Kilkari would help the children pick up new skills and also entertain them during this period.

Fun was the only thing that mattered on Friday, though.

Rashmi Kumari, a Class XII student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kankerbagh, said the gola party and the game of antakshari made her day.

Ankita, a Class V student of Arya Kanya Girls’ High School, said: “This is the first time I am taking part in a rain dance party. I did not have any idea that I would enjoy so much.”

The programme officer, Thakur, said: “We organise exciting activities during our summer camp every year. This year, the students would learn experiments. Art-and-craft activities, various sports events, song, dance, painting and other extra-curricular activities would also be organised for them. Deepak John Mathew, a photographer and faculty member of National Institute of Design, would also help the students with photography and designing.”
