Rage redux: MLA's son stabs man

Pintu Kumar, a resident of Daudnagar in Aurangabad district, is struggling for life at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after an RJD MLA's son stabbed him multiple times on Friday night in what seemed almost a repeat of the road rage murder of Aditya Sachdeva, a teenager, in May 7 this year allegedly for overtaking JDU MLC Manorama Devi's son Rocky Yadav's car on the Bodhgaya-Gaya road.

Pintu's father Gopal Singh, 57, a farmer, said on Sunday that his 36-year-old son was attacked around 10pm on Friday by RJD MLA from Obra in Aurangabad Birendra Kumar Sinha's son Kunal Pratap and his associates when Pintu was returning home on his motorbike from a petrol pump on the Aurangabad-Patna road under the jurisdiction of Daudnagar police station.

Kunal (38) allegedly became furious because Pintu overtook his car. Kunal and his associate, identified as Bhrigu Kumar, got down of the car and allegedly thrashed Pintu.

They then allegedly stabbed Pintu with a knife, causing grievous injuries to his shoulder and chest, and fled. The locals admitted Pintu, who was bleeding profusely, to the Daudnagar primary health centre from where he was referred to PMCH.

"He (Kunal) wanted me to follow his orders as his father is an MLA; but I said no and then he stabbed me," Pintu told news agency ANI.

Doctors said on Sunday that Pintu has been shifted to the general ward and he is stable but not out of danger.

"Doctors attending to him said the next 48 hours are crucial," Gopal Singh told The Telegraph.

Kunal, who is the mukhiya (chief) of Ankoraha panchayat, had earlier threatened a local businessman with dire consequences for failing to cough up extortion money, the father alleged.

He added that Friday's incident was the fallout of road rage, and cited the fact that the RJD legislator was compelled to hand over his son to police the same night as proof.

MLA Sinha said he has nothing to do with the incident, and that he had handed over his son to the cops the same day of the incident.

"I did my bit," the MLA said.

The Daudnagar police on Saturday produced Kunal before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody for two weeks.

Aurangabad superintendent of police (SP) Satyaprakash, however, said the incident was a result of an old rivalry and not road rage.

Pintu and Kunal had an altercation during the panchayat elections, the SP said, adding that the accused was immediately arrested and sent to jail. The SP said raids were carried out last night to nab Kunal's associate Bhrigu alias Sagar, who is absconding after the incident. <>

Aurangabad sub-divisional police officer Sanjay Kumar said an FIR has been lodged with the Daudnagar police station on the statement of Pintu's father.
