The education department has recommended the name of N.R. Madhava Menon — educationist and founder member of National Law School of India University (NLSIU) — as a member of the search committee for appointment of vice-chancellors (VCs) and pro-vice-chancellors (pro-VCs) to Raj Bhavan.
Education department principal secretary Amarjeet Sinha said: “Yesterday (Wednesday), we sent Menon’s name as a member the of search committee, the two others will be appointed by the Raj Bhavan.”
The committee would comprise three members, two appointed by Raj Bhavan and one by the state government. The chancellor would appoint the committee chairman, who must be a reputed academic or scholar or a Padma awardee. The second member to be appointed by Raj Bhavan should be director or head of a nationally acclaimed institution such as Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore or other premier institution.
The panel has been appointed according to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines.
A week back, Lalit Narayan Mithila University, Darbhanga, VC Surendra Mohan Jha, Patna University VC Arun Kumar Sinha and BR Ambedkar Bihar University Muzaffarpur VC Ravi Verma had submitted its draft proposal for preparing statutes of the committee.
