Muzaffarpur, May 13: The police headquarters has initiated a probe into alleged irregularities in the bachelor of law Part I examination conducted by Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, for which former RJD MP Mohammed Shahabuddin and IPS officer Gupteshwar Pandey had appeared.

Shahabuddin was lodged in jail but allegedly stepped out without authorisation to take the exam in September 2005. The venue of the exam was Ram Dayalu Singh College. Pandey, then deputy inspector-general of Tirhut range, was also an examinee.

On Monday, director-general of police (training) Krishna Choudhary questioned university examination controller Arun Kumar Singh and collected documents related to the exam. Choudhary was assigned the probe after Muzaffarpur-based Right to Information activist Hemant Kumar submitted a petition to the director-general of police, Abhayanand, on March 18.

The examination controller confirmed that Choudhary had summoned him and asked him to provide certain documents related to the law examination. The petition submitted to the state police chief alleged that both Shahabuddin and Pandey had got admitted to SK Jubilee Law College, Muzaffarpur, for the session 2004-05. The university also ordered a detailed probe.
