Potholes on a dozen main roads under the jurisdiction of Munger Nagar Nigam here have become a headache for residents.
Not a single day passes without minor or major accidents on these roads. But the district administration has so far failed to take any action against the guilty contractors.
Contractors from M/S Zindal Company dug up a dozen busy roads here two years ago to lay underground water pipes under the ambitious Munger Water Supply Scheme. But they never repaired the damaged roads, ignoring conditions in the work tender.
Munger town commissioner Prabhat Kumar Sinha said he had, on September 6, written to the state secretary, public health engineering department (PHED), Patna, giving details of the damaged roads and urging him to take the matter up with M/S Zindal Company so that damaged roads could be repaired immediately and grievances of residents addressed without delay.
“M/S Zindal contractors dug up 12 busy and important roads but failed to repair them. Roads where pot-holes have surfaced after they were dug up include the stretch from Canara Bank to BJP office, BJP office to Gandhi Chowk Road, Gandhi Chowk-Neelam Cinema road, Neelam Cinema to Shashtri Chowk Road, Shashtri Chowk to Mangal Bazar to Subhash Chowk Road, Patna road via Kasim Bazar, Khoza Bazar and Bindwara areas, Khoja Bazar to Mandal Tola road, Sheetla Mandir to Hospital Road and Hawai Adda Road,” the town commissioner said.
Munger mayor Kumkum Devi said she had sent a detailed report to Munger district magistrate Amrendra P. Singh and urged him to take the matter up with the construction firm. Amrendra, vide a letter dated August 12, 2014, has even asked the secretary, PHED, to take it up with higher officials.
Bhavesh Kumar Jha, a betel-vendor at Mahaddipur, said it is impossible to take the road during rains. “I recently met with an accident,” he said. Nilamber K. Mishra (55), another resident, said the administration has taken no action against contractors.
