Patna: Patna University has cancelled the admission of dismissed Patna University Students' Union (Pusu) president Divyanshu Bhardwaj for submitting wrong affidavits and declarations while filling up nomination papers during the elections.
Divyanshu took admission in the Himalayan University (Itanagar) in the same academic session (2014-17) during which he was an undergraduate student of Patna's BN College. "The university has asked the postgraduate department of political science to cancel Divyanshu's admission for hiding facts about his admission in the Itanagar university," said Patna University vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh.
The postgraduate political science department has received the letter from the university and has cancelled Divyanshu's admission. Haridwar Shukla, the head of the postgraduate political science department, said: "Based on Patna University directives, we have cancelled the admission of Divyanshu Bhardwaj for furnishing wrong documents during admission at the postgraduate department."
Divyanshu is currently in the second semester of the postgraduate department session (2017-19). Shukla said: "As Divyanshu's admission is cancelled, his name will be struck off the attendance register."
At the same time, the university has decided to seek information from the Himalayan University, Itanagar, to know how the university admitted Divyanshu in the 2014-17 session, while he was given college leaving certificate from BN College in 2016.
Attempts to contact Divyanshu proved futile as he didn't respond to phone calls.
Sources said Divyanshu's academic arrears first came to light when the candidates for the Pusu election were finalised by different students' bodies. ABVP, the RSS-backed students' organisation, refused to make Divyanshu its presidential candidate for the Pusu polls in February as he had academic arrears.
An ABVP member looking after the affairs of the party in Patna University, on condition of anonymity, said: "When we were finalising candidates for the Pusu polls, the organisation's first choice was Divyanshu. But when we went through his documents, we found academic arrears and decided not to make him the candidate."
The member added: "However, Divyanshu decided to contest the election as an Independent candidate and by that time, other students' organisations came to know about his academic arrears."
