Gaya, Nov. 12: In a bid to encourage academic activity among students of government and non-government schools especially in Naxalite infected areas, Gaya police is organising a competition on the occasion of Children's Day.

The winner of the competition will be awarded a laptop while those in second, third and fourth places will get tabs, smartphones and wristwatches, respectively. Those in fifth to 10th position will be getting digital wall clock as prizes.

Gaya senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj on Thursday said the motive behind organising the competition is to encourage creativity among students.

The competition will be organized at Gaya College on Saturday. Personnel from police department will be examiners, evaluators and the questions have also been set by them. The registration of the students will be done at the examination centre.

"We expect more than 500 participants at the competition," the SSP said. The competition will be organised for boys and girls in which students of classes IX and X will take part. There would be 100 objective type questions with negative marking. Each question will be of one mark. But 1/4 mark will be deducted on every wrong answer.

To ensure success of the competition, publicity has been done at all levels. At police stations and chowkis, posters have been put up, in rural areas, especially, Naxalite infested ones, he said.

The police have also started a campaign to encourage surrender of the Maoists. Pamphlets have been pasted in the villages with information that if a rebel wants to return to mainstream of society, he/she will get all benefits of the rehabilitation policy, including accommodation arrangement, education facility to children, relaxation in cases lodged against them, facilitating self-employment, cash for each firearm surrendered and other facilities.

Under Operation Vishwas, around six Maoists have so far surrendered before police. Meanwhile, three rebels - Manoj Yadav, Ramesh Kumar Yadav and Sanju Yadav - were arrested.

The trio were involved in planting a landmine at Thakthkwa under the jurisdiction of Dumaria police station on February 24 in which a CoBRA havildar Gulab Yadav and driver Narottam Das were killed and seven other jawans were injured. The three were also involved in torching 28 trucks on Grand Trunk road under the the jurisdiction of Amas police station on May 24.
