Patna, July 22: The Rohtas police have failed to recover 10-year-old schoolboy Abhishek Kumar who was kidnapped from Nokha police station area of the district on Wednesday.

Rohtas superintendent of police (SP) Manu Maharaj said raids have been conducted at different hideouts of the abductors to recover the boy. Preliminary investigation has revealed that Abhishek was taken hostage because of a feud over a plot of land and not for ransom.

“The accused and the complainant are relatives,” he said, adding that the police investigations were proceedings on the right track.

The victim’s father, Thakur Singh, reported to the Nokha police on Wednesday after his son did not return home from school. Abhishek is a student of Class V at Option Convent in Nokha.

Two persons — Hare Ram Singh and his wife Sharda Devi — have been named as the accused in the case.

Abhishek’s mother Dhana Devi said the accused had threatened her husband and family members with “dire consequences” after a dispute over a plot of land. “Their intention is to forcibly grab the land,” she told a group of reporters.

She said they started looking for Abhishek when he did not return home from school. “When we failed to trace him, we reported the matter to the police and a case of kidnap was lodged,” she said.

She added that the entire family was praying to God for a safe return of their child.

Meanwhile, the 10-year-old’s abduction has sent shockwaves among the people of the area. Many people expressed concerns over the safety and security of their children.
