Patna on Thursday had to deal with waterlogging and delayed flights despite intermittent rain of 27.6mm in 24 hours.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) the axis of the monsoon trough at mean sea level continues to pass through Amritsar, Karnal, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, Muzaffarpur, Goalpara and will then move eastwards to east Assam.

It added that another branch also continues to pass through Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur, Shantiniketan and then southeast to north Bay of Bengal.

Patna Met director Sumendu Sengupta explained: "The region is under the influence of a cyclonic circulation and so we expect good rain over central as well as eastern parts of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha and Gangetic Bengal throughout the week."

The IMD in its weather warning has predicted heavy rain at isolated places over Bihar and sub-Himalayan Bengal and Sikkim till August 14.

A Patna Met department official said active monsoon conditions are expected over Bihar, Jharkhand, east and central Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. "The region is expected to receive normal rainfall in the second half of monsoon," he said.

Thursday's rain, though not heavy, resulted in severe waterlogging in Buddha Murti area, Kadamkuan and Station Road causing inconvenience to pedestrians and motorists.

"I was late to office because of the waterlogging. Neither bus, nor autorickshaws were available when it rained heavily in the morning," said Annapurna Singh, 26, an office-goer.

The morning rain disrupted several flights operating from Patna airport, as the bad weather condition and low visibility made landing and take-offs difficult.

IndiGo's flight 6E 494, which departs from New Delhi at 6.55am and arrives in Patna at 8.35am, landed at the city airport around 15 minutes late as the plane kept hovering because of poor visibility.

Patna airport director Rajendra Singh Lahouria said: "Visibility in the morning dropped to 600m, the pilot abstained from landing. It landed when the weather improved 15 minutes later. A minimum of 1,200m is required for the smooth conduct of flight operations."

SpiceJet flight 831 from Delhi to Patna arrived here 30 minutes late. The flight arrived at 10.40am against the scheduled arrival at 10.10am.

The departing flights, too, got delayed because of the spell as Jet Airways flight from Patna to New Delhi reached Delhi 50 minutes late. Against the scheduled departure of 12.55pm, the flight departed at 1.46pm.

GoAir flight 585 got delayed by 22 minutes as it reached Delhi late after it departed at 2.34pm against the actual departure time of 2.05pm.
