Patna, Jan. 12: Get set to time travel into the past from the last week of this month, as Patna Museum would organise an exhibition to celebrate 100 glorious years of the state. The event would continue till the last week of March covering Bihar Divas on March 22.

Be it the excavations at Vaishali or Didarganj that we have come across in history and religious books, or literature, including novels like Chandrakanta, considered to be the first work of prose in modern Hindi, the centenary exhibition would have it all.

“We have asked Patna Museum to organise an exhibition to celebrate the centenary year of the state. The event would showcase the history and archaeology of the past 100 years. While the museum team would take care of the event, the state art, culture and youth affairs department would provide financial support,” said Anjani Kumar Singh, principal secretary of the department and the nodal officer of Bihar Divas centenary celebrations.

“We are trying to present the landmark events in the history of Bihar during the past 100 years. Over 100 photographs, along with descriptions of important happenings, including Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha movement in 1917, the excavations at Vaishali in 1962 and the JP Movement in 1974 would be displayed. An unused hall in the museum is also being developed into a hall, which would be the venue for the exhibition,” said JPN Singh, additional director, Patna Museum.

Singh added: “The preparations for the centenary exhibition are in the final stages and it is likely to be inaugurated in the last week of this month.” Photographs of the Vaishali excavations and the statue of Didarganj Yakshi among other historical events would be a huge draw.

“Schools and colleges would be invited to bring students to this exhibition, where they would learn about the journey of the state in the past 100 years. Moreover, entry would be free of cost unlike other days,” added Singh.
