Patna, Aug. 3: It’s time now for Patnaites to get a feel of the real picture. City’s Shrikrishna Science Centre (SSC) now offers an option, which allows visitors to witness the thrill of three-dimensional (3-D) film viewing on a daily basis.

SSC has set up a full-fledged 60-seater air-conditioned theatre that will show 3-D films daily. Patna’s SSC is the 14th science centre to have this facility. The theatre uses latest circularly polarised light technology for exhibiting 3-D movies.

This technology is based on the concept that if certain components of light are allowed to pass through an object and two cameras are used to shoot a scene, an illusion of 3-D picture could be created without compromising the colour quality of the film.

Earlier, colour filter technology was used to shoot 3-D films like Shiva Ka Insaaf and Chota Chetan, which compromised on the colour quality.

Viewers at the SSC theatre are provided with polaroid glasses to watch films and two projectors are used to show the film on specially fitted Aluminium-based screen, SSC project coordinator, Anurag Kumar, told The Telegraph.

Special care is taken to keep the goggles infection-free and these are periodically washed with medicated water.

At present, the theatre is exhibiting two films Master of Magic and Shark Island, which have a combined duration of 13-minutes.

More films would follow in the days to come including Hindi movies, which are being made by National Council of Science Museum, the controlling authority for the 27 science centres set up across the country.

A visitor to SSC’s theatre has to pay Rs 10 for viewing one show and in case of school students, who come for organised viewing, the ticket prices are reduced to half.

At present, four shows — 11am, 1pm, 3pm and 5pm — are screened everyday. There is provision for organising special shows for organised trips of school students to the theatre.

“We have not received the expected response. But these are initial days and we expect the number of footfalls to increase in the days to come,” Kumar said.

SSC has also decided to go on an information dissemination spree for making 3-D theatre popular among the people of Patna. It would be writing to all the city schools informing them about the latest addition to the SSC.

“Pamphlets and folders are being made and these would be distributed among the people soon,” said the project coordinator.
