Tuberculosis talk

The State Health Society organised a workshop on tuberculosis on Monday. "So far 64,000 tuberculosis patients have got themselves registered in the centre-run government hospitals while another 27000 patients have got themselves registered in state-run hospitals," said state programme officer, tuberculosis, K.N. Sahay.

Deputy chairperson of Bihar State Child Labour Commission Anita Sinha expressed concern on the practice of wrong medication given to tuberculosis patients by quacks in the villages. "Quacks not only give wrong medicines to the patients but they also misguide the patients stating that they have a short life expectancy due to the disease. However, if tuberculosis patients are given medicines in the initial stage of their disease, they can be cured," said Sinha.

Sinha also asked the State Health Society authorities to organise the tuberculosis awareness programmes in villages. "Instead of organising these programmes in such type of hotels, you should organise these programmes in the schools and anganwadi centres," she said.
