Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will be a star campaigner of the BJP-led NDA coalition in the Assembly elections, would address a series of rallies in different phases starting October 2.

Beginning the rally in Banka district next Friday, Modi is all likely to address another rally in Lakhisarai on October 4. Both Banka and Lakhisarai along with 49 constituencies go to the polls in the first phase on October 12.

As Modi is scheduled to hold rally in Banka on October 2, dilapidated roads from Mahishadih airstrip to the proposed rally sites left the district administration confused as well as made the BJP leaders anxious.

Apart from these two rallies, Modi is all likely to address around 20 election rallies spread over five phases. BJP sources said though the party had prepared a list of 40 star campaigners, the state leadership is banking on Modi charisma primarily due to his mass appeal. No leader from the state BJP has been projected as a chief ministerial candidate till date.

A senior BJP leader on condition of anonymity said: "As the party has not projected any leader as CM candidate, the party is entirely dependent on the Modi charisma."

The leader added that in the last general election, Modi, who was then the BJP's PM candidate, had addressed more than a dozen rallies and the result was that the party made its best performance in general election with NDA coalition winning 31 seats of 40. The BJP leader's statement assume importance as due to the Modi series on rallies, the BJP vote share increased by a whopping 16 per cent from 13.9 per cent in the 2009 parliamentary elections to 29.9 per cent riding mainly on the huge popularity surge of Modi which swept him to power. Nitish Kumar-led JDU suffered the most as its vote share plunged by 8 per cent, as it managed to secure just two of the 40 seats.

Giving another reason behind Modi holding a series of rallies in Bihar, senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav said: "As no other state is going to election this time, Modi will devote maximum time to the party campaign in Bihar."

The final itinerary of Modi will be prepared once he returns from his US visit.

The party, which has till date declared a list of 153 candidates, is facing internal rift after many sitting MLA were denied tickets. In such a situation, only Modi can bring enthusiasm among party workers and leaders.
