Patna: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Friday emphasised the need for parks and playing fields in a smart city.
Inaugurating the National Smart City Conclave here, Modi said he had ordered the environment and forests department to leave half the space for children where ever parks are made in Bihar.
"In Bihar, it (urbanisation) is only 11 per cent," he said, stressing that Patna was developing as a city.
Urbanisation of developed states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala was around 40 per cent, he said adding that urbanisation was necessary for the development of any state.
Modi added that Rs 1,000 crore would be spent on Patna, Muzaffarpur, Bhagalpur and Biharsharif each in the next five years besides Rs 3,000 crore for treatment plants.
"The best practices of urbanisation across the globe should be followed," he said at the programme also attended by Patna divisional commissioner Anand Kishor and principal secretary, urban development, Chaitanya Prasad.
The deputy chief minister also identified electronic garbage disposal, pedestrian pavements, cycle tracks and information technology as some of the key sectors for smart cities to focus on.
Urban development's Principal secretary Chaitanya said a state-level control command centre will be established in Patna and later connected with all 143 municipal bodies in the state.
Divisional commissioner Kishor also said smart transportation, building , safety and security, and innovative solutions are key to smart cities.
"Around 1100 CCTV cameras will be installed in Patna for Rs 100 crore. Information on streetlights and environment among other aspects will be relayed through the CCTV network. Thirty electric buses will also be started in Patna with 60 per cent of the amount to be paid for by the Centre."
