Patna, Aug. 12: Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB) has set the counselling dates from August 23 to 28 for admission to the MBBS course at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS). But the new health cradle has so far failed to woo any student clearing the CBSE All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT).

Sources said nobody had taken admission through the CBSE quota yet and the institution was yet to receive any information from the board through the Union ministry of health.

“The second counselling for CBSE AIPMT was slated for August 6. So far, we have not been approached by any student officially for admissions nor have we received any information or list of students interested in taking admission,” said a senior officer of IGIMS.

The new health cradle could be a hit among the medical aspirants of the state, though. The decision of BCECEB to conduct the counselling from August 23 comes after the board of governors of IGIMS recently complied with the state government’s suggestion to take admissions from the state pre-medical exam merit last and not conduct a separate examination, as planned earlier.

According to sources, in its application for starting a medical college five years ago, the institution had submitted that admissions would be taken through an all India competitive examination through an open advertisement.

The institution had first decided to conduct an all India-level examination. It had published its academic calendar and even floated admission forms online. Over 10,000 students had applied.

The change of plans happened after the state health department suggested that students from the merit list of BCECE should be given admission this year, as it would not be possible to complete the process by August 31, the deadline set by Supreme Court.
