Patna: Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Friday launched an online mutation facility for land in 45 circles from 1 Aney Marg, freeing residents across the state of the trouble to make rounds of government offices.

Vivek Singh, the principal secretary of the land revenue department, said the facility would be extended to the 100 and more circles remaining later. Singh and other officials of revenue and land reforms department gave details of the online mutation facility to the chief minister.

Mutation is a process by which ownership details of a land or property are entered into government records. Earlier, residents had to go to the circle offices for the documentation but now, they can do so through the portal, www.land.Bihar.gov.in

Residents in the 45 circles can download the application form from the government portal and also fill it and send to the authority concerned directly.

The Telegraph had reported in August 2017 about the expected launch of this service. A senior official in the department had then said the facility would help check people who fraudulently get someone else's property mutation done in their name by tampering the records.

Now, this online mutation procedure will ensure transparency in the system. Records will be kept in a digital format in the circles where the online system has been launched, ensuring there isn't any human interference in the process.

Residents would have to provide the details in a format with a scanned copy of the necessary documents. Once the mutation process is complete, the property/landowner will be informed about it.
