Patna, Feb. 21: Improving the quality of education in the state formed the crux of the Abhayanand Maths Olympiad organised by the Private School Association and Children Welfare Association at the Bihar Industries Association hall today.

Former director-general of police (DGP) Abhayanand was the chief guest and other guests, which included Next Education, Hyderabad, vice-president Darpan Vasudev, IAS officer Sanjeevan Sinha and NIOS regional officer Sanjay Sinha.

Private School Association and Children Welfare Association state president Shamael Ahmad, along with other dignitaries, released a souvenir on improving the quality of education in private schools of Bihar. Around 38 district officers of private schools from Bhagalpur, Munger, Gaya, Chhapra, Samastipur, Buxar, Purnea and Darbhanga attended the event. Ahmed expressed his gratitude to chief guest Abhayanand for taking the responsibility of teaching mathematics to two lakh students of private schools in Bihar.

He said: "We started this programme, Abhayanand Maths Olympiad, last December. It's a privilege for private school students to be able to learn science and mathematics from Abhayanand for free. We will conduct tests in May for students of classes I to V. The top 50 students who score well in this exam will get full scholarship till Class XII. We will release the date of the exams soon and associated schools would be notified. We will try to improve the quality of education of private schools in Bihar so that students need not to go Kota and Rajasthan. We are taking a step to strengthen the learning base of students."

He added: "The quality of education in private schools depends on the teachers and the interest of students. The administrators need to realise that. In Bihar, nobody cares about the quality of education. But in four years, the private schools have improved the quality of education."

Around 25,000 private schools from the 38 districts are associated with this programme. Addressing the district officers of private schools, Abhayanand said: "I taught the students more about understanding the concept than learning it in a conventional manner. The programme started in December 2014 from Chhapra and I will teach all the students of private schools within six months. I hope that this programme helps the students to understand the mathematical concepts in a better way."

He requested the district officers to send the books, copies and stationery to the state officer so that thay can be circulated among underprivileged students. He said: "After the exam ends, I want the students to donate their books to underprivileged students."

Darpan Vasudev stressed on improving the quality of teachers in private schools for students' welfare. He said: "We will hold demonstration classes in all private schools and train teachers on teaching concepts. If the methods are better, then the students will also excel in academics. It's our resolution to improve the standard of private schools in terms of quality of education."
