Patna, June 14: The Bihar State Human Rights Commission (BSHRC) today took suo motu cognisance of lapses on the part of the Begusarai police officers, which led to the arrest of 18-year-old Amit Kumar in a kidnapping case without any evidence.

Kumar is languishing in the Begusarai district jail for over three months.

BSHRC chairman Justice (retd) S.N. Jha issued a notice to director-general of police (DGP) Neel Mani today asking him to submit a detailed report on the incident within four weeks. “The commission issued a notice to the DGP on the basis of a newspaper report,” he said.

The Telegraph had published a report on June 14 highlighting the highhandedness of the Begsuarai police officers.

The BSHRC had earlier received a similar complaint against the police personnel posted at Masaurhi police station in Patna rural area.
