Chief minister Nitish Kumar on Monday hit back at RJD chief Lalu Prasad, who had on Sunday held a public rally in Bhagalpur and spit fire at the chief minister and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi over the Srijan fund-transfer scam.

'The Bhagalpur rally was like nukkad natak (street play). I saw and listened to the kind of things they (Lalu and sons Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav) were saying. It will prove suicidal for them,' Nitish said on the sidelines of his Lok Samvad (public interaction).

He pointed out that the CBI probe into the scam was going on, and said everything would become crystal clear in a few days. He also challenged Lalu and family to produce documents to support the allegations they have been levelling at him (of looking the other way as the scam unfolded and giving in to the BJP's blackmail over the scam to snap ties with the RJD).

'If you don't have faith in the CBI, approach Patna High Court or the Supreme Court, and seek court monitoring,' Nitish said in a dare to the Opposition.

Lalu, Tejashwi and Tej Pratap had come down heavily on Nitish over the scam on Sunday.

'Some people forget decency,' Nitish said. 'I believe in work - instead of wasting time in arguing with them. Who does what is not hidden. You all (Lalu and family) should ask this to yourselves.'

He was, obviously, referring to the raids by income tax, CBI and Enforcement Directorate authorities on Lalu and family.

The chief minister also hit out at dissident party leader Sharad Yadav: 'Everybody saw how many legislators and party officials were with you at the (August 27) RJD rally. You are getting publicity which you didn't get in 40 years.'

Nitish spoke to the family members of seven-year-old Pradyuman Thakur, who was murdered at Ryan International School in Gurgaon.

He also called up Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar. 'The Haryana chief minister has assured that he would meet the boy's family,' Nitish said.

Asked about the difference between the Rs 5 crore cheque sent as flood relief by the Gujarat government in 2010, which he had returned, and the cheque of same amount that was handed over to him recently by a Gujarat minister, Nitish said people were free to interpret it in the way they wanted and pointed out that they have already been doing so.
