Nitish mourns MLA death

Siwan, June 26: Duraundha legislator Jagmato Devi died this morning following a cardiac arrest. She was 75.

The JD(U) MLA breathed her last at her village home in Nandamura under Siswan police station. She is survived by five sons and two daughters. She was popular in the area as Mataji.

Chief minister Nitish Kumar went to Jagmato Devi’s home to pay respects to the departed soul. He announced a state funeral for her.

Jagmato Devi won her first election from Raghunathpur Assembly constituency in 2005 as an Independent candidate. After four months, she was re-elected from Raghunathpur Assembly constituency on a JD(U) ticket. The election was conducted under the President’s rule. After delimitation of the constituencies, Jagmato Devi contested from Duraundha constituency last year on JD(U) ticket and won.

A pall of gloom descended on different areas in the constituency soon after her death. People from different sections of the society went to Jagmato Devi’s home to pay their last respect to her.
