Patna, Jan. 3: The Bihar police headquarters would closely monitor all cases pertaining to corruption and irregularities in Indira Awas Yojana.

On the sidelines of chief minister Nitish Kumar’s janata darbar, Bihar director-general of police Neel Mani told The Telegraph directions have been given to the men-in-uniform for fast and concentrated investigation on such cases.

Nitish’s janata darbar on December 20 had swelled with many cases of irregularities and corruption in allotment of Indira Awas Yojana to the poor.

People had complained that they were refused allotment of houses under Indira Awas Yojana in spite of possessing requisite documents. They also complained that musclemen illegally capture those houses.

“The state police headquarters would closely monitor all cases pertaining to irregularities in Indira Awas Yojana filed in the districts. The stress is on fast and intense investigations so that people do not have to suffer. All the districts have been directed to do the same,” Neel Mani said.

With the Gaya police under the scanner for allegedly shooting at one Jalaluddin a fortnight back, Neel Mani said the Gaya DIG had been asked to investigate the matter thoroughly. Jalaluddin was on his way home on a motorcycle late at night in Gaya when some policemen, who were allegedly drunk, stopped him.

The motorcyclist slowed down but did not make halt. The cops reckoned that he was fleeing and shot at him, injuring the man.

Sources, however, said investigations have shown that the bullet that hit the man did not belong to the police. “The matter is being investigated by the DIG in-charge. The case will be solved soon,” Neel Mani said.

Meanwhile, the top officer said though all IPS officers in the state have been declaring their assets to the state government, the same can be made public too if such a law is passed.

“The IPS officers also declare their assets to the state government. If police conduct rules say, the declaration of the assets can be made public too,” he said. The DGP added that the police had been directed to investigate cases being lodged in a better manner so that the complainants are not left unsatisfied.

“Each year, some 1.3 lakh cases are lodged with the police. The police are always trying to make things better and directions have been passed for better investigation. People should be happy with the police. There has been a drop in the several forms of crime and the stress is not routing out the kidnapping for ransom cases,” he said.
