Cyclone Nilam has brought down the day temperature in the state capital with overcast skies accompanied with intermittent drizzle greeting residents over the weekend.
The weatherman, however, said the situation is likely to become normal by Tuesday.
Ashish Sen, director (radar), India Meteorological Department, said on Sunday: “Nilam hit the Tamil Nadu coast on October 31. It has weakened gradually and has turned into a low-pressure area and developed cloud cover over Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal. The day temperature is being recorded three to five degrees Celsius less than normal because of this cloud cover.”
On Saturday, the minimum temperature in Patna was recorded at 18.1°C, five degrees Celsius less than normal. On Sunday, it rose to 20.6°C, still three degrees Celsius less than normal.
The residents are feeling the sudden nip in the air, which could easily be mistaken for the onset of winter.
“I was sleeping with the AC switched on till Friday. However, I felt a sudden drop in the temperature from Saturday. The fan has replaced AC at night and I am also wearing a half sleeve jacket while riding my motorbike in the evening,” said Kundan Kumar, a resident of Rajiv Nagar.
Sen, although, assured the residents that clear and bright skies will reappear by Tuesday.
“The cloud cover is expected to prevail till tomorrow (Monday) by when the low pressure will completely subside. The day and night temperatures are expected to remain around 30°C and 17°C, respectively, which is close to normal at this time of the year.” He said winter in the capital is expected to officially set in by November 20.
