Protest turns violent

Patna: Thousands of students who will take the Intermediate examinations that begin on March 8 created a ruckus on Thursday in Barh, around 60km from Patna. The rampaging students allegedly ransacked the Barh railway station and smashed the windows of the Guwahati-Lokmanya Tilak Express.he students, who had gathered at ANS More to demand the shift of examination centre from Patna to Barh, also allegedly smashed an ATM kiosk. The police had to use force to restrain the rampaging students. An FIR against 500 persons has been lodged, said the superintendent of police (railways), Suresh Chaudhary.

Theatre

Patna: The 26th Patliputra Natya Mahotsav organised by Prangan, a cultural organisation started in Patna on Wednesday. The five-day-long theatre festival was inaugurated on Wednesday. Artistes of Indian Mime Theatre, Calcutta, performed on the first day. Theatre artistes from Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bengal and Bihar will be performing at the festival.

Appointment

Patna: Kahkashan Parveen took charge as the chairperson of Bihar State Women’s Commission on Thursday. The commission has been non-functional since November last year because it had completed its term. Parveen was the chairperson of the commission for a few months before the Assembly elections. She had resigned to fight the elections.

Rampage

Chhapra: Examinees taking the Bihar School Examination Board exam went on a rampage on Thursday to protest the extra Rs 395 they have been directed to pay to take the mathematics examination, papers of which were allegedly leaked. The agitated students damaged a police Jeep at Baniapur and ransacked the furniture of a high school. They were finally pacified by the district administration.
