Council polls

Patna, March 27: The results of the four teachers’ and four graduates’ seats of the State Legislative Council polls were declared today. JP’s Nawal Kishore Yadav was declared elected from Patna seat, CPI’s Kedar Nath Pandey from Saran, CPI’s Sanjay Kumar from Tirhut and Congress’s Madan Mohan Jha from Darbhanga teachers’ constituencies. In the graduate constituencies, JD(U)’s Neeraj Kumar won from Patna y, Independent Devesh Chandra Thakur from Tirhut, Congress’s Dilip Kumar Choudhary from Darbhanga and BJP’s N.K. Yadav from Kosi.

Rabri claim

Chhapra: Former chief minister Rabri Devi on Thursday said Lalu was the real messiah of the poor at a meeting in Sabbalpur. “Lalu set up many factories in the state, while Nitish Kumar makes only tall claims,” she said.

Four killed

Hajipur: Four persons were killed and 15 injured when a bus fell into a ditch on NH-77 near Bithauli village on Thursday.

Buxar: Three persons were arrested with 30kg of ganja at Nimej village.

Bribery arrest

Patna: Anand Kumar Alok, an assistant in the Arwal district treasury office, was arrested by a vigilance investigation bureau team, while accepting Rs 15,000 as bribe from one Ram Pravesh Singh. lok had asked for the bribe to release the payment of schoolteacher Susheela Devi. He would be produced before the special vigilance court in Patna on Friday.

Bank branch

Patna: The 125th branch of Union Bank of India was inaugurated in the Jaganpura locality of Patna on Thursday. Another branch would be inaugurated in Gulzarbagh on Friday.

Doc age bar

Patna: The BJP on Thursday claimed that the government’s decision to raise the age bar for appointment of doctors was done to influence voters.

Cong happy

Patna: State Congress president Ashok Choudhary on Thursday expressed happiness at the success of two of the three party candidates in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council.

Suspension

Patna: Bihar State Power (Holding) Company on Thursday suspended two employees.
