Two dead

Gopalganj: Two persons, including a woman, died on Thursday night when the vehicle in which they were travelling overturned at Basha village under the jurisdiction of Vijaipur police station. ix persons, including the driver, suffered serious injuries.

Accident

Motihari: A four-year-old boy, Bajrangi Ram, was crushed to death by a speeding truck near Sangrampur Bazaar in the district on Friday. The driver was arrested and his vehicle was seized.

Boys drown

Darbhanga: Two boys, identified as Manish Kumar (16) and Vivek Kumar (14), who drowned in Digghi Tank on Thursday evening, could not be recovered till the filing of the report.

Sharad quit call by trio

Patna, May 23: Three JD(U) MLAs — Raju Singh, Gyanendra Singh Gyanu and Ajit Kumar — have demanded the resignations of party president Sharad Yadav and the other ministers. yanu and Ajit said like former chief minister Nitish Kumar, the other ministers should also own moral responsibility for the party’s rout in the Lok Sabha elections and tender their resignations. Raju demanded the resignation of Sharad from the post of party president on the same ground.

Suicide

Patna: A woman and her three children allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Bandarjhula village in Kishanganj district on Friday. The victims have been identified as Sushila Khatun (25), Khushnavi (4), Naz (2) and Munil Alam (1). Police said Sushila laced food with poison and served the children. Later, she also consumed the substance. A family dispute is said to have provoked the woman to take the extreme step.

Power review

Patna: Energy department secretary-cum-Bihar State Power (Holding) Company Ltd chairperson-cum-managing director Sandeep Poundrik on Friday held a meeting to review the performance of distribution companies to deal with the problems being faced by power consumers in summer. Top officials of South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd. and North Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd, including directors, chief engineers and other officials, were also present during the review meeting.

Tease slur

Patna: Birendra Ram, a teacher of a government school in Sheikhpura district, was arrested on Friday on the charge of misbehaving with three girl students of the institution.

Civic nod

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation on Friday approved Rs 2.86 crore to expedite the drainage cleaning work ahead of monsoon. The civic body decided to construct additional water supply pipeline of 50km in the city. Patna municipal commissioner Kuldip Narayan has written to the state human resource department demanding Rs 1.97 crore against the pending holding tax on various government buildings in the city.
